Now before you report us to the Federal authorities, or OSHA or the CIA, FBI or ASPCA… let’s be clear about something right off the bat. We are absolutely, 100% and without any reservation in SUPPORT of passion in the workplace! We don’t want any confusion here. If you’re not bringing passion to work with you each and every day… report yourself immediately, seek help and come back when you’ve had a change of heart!
Forget about chocolates and flowers and gushy little post-it notes! We’re talking about starting a fire! Arnold H. Glasow said, “Success isn’t a result of spontaneous combustion. You must set yourself on fire.” In order to affect change like never before, you need to light it up and bring it with you when you come to work.
How do you accomplish that? As it is with everything else in life, you make a choice. No one can make it for you – but many are able to influence you. Those who bring their passion to work, are probably desperate to help you become passionate, too. These people in your life become the flint to your steel, and while it probably takes a collision of sorts to create the spark of passion resurrected, it may be just exactly what the doctor ordered.
What does passion in the workplace look like? Probably not what you’re thinking right now. Unless, of course, you are thinking that it looks like energy… heat… productivity… and confidence. For you, it might look like a new angle on an old problem. Or a fresh set of eyes on the project you’ve been working on. Or maybe it’s the removal of that writer’s block and the resurgence of creativity. Maybe it’s just the twinkle of light that returns to your eye, or a smile where too many frowns have been present for too long.
Whatever it looks like, it’s long overdue in the workplace – and it’s up to you…. yes, YOU… to take care of it right away! Don’t have it, and don’t know where to get it? Connect with someone who does. Hang out with people who cannot contain their passion. You’ll know them by the way everyone wants to be around them. They naturally attract people who desire to catch the fire that they have. When in their presence, life is just… better. That’s the passion… and it’s up to you to bring it to work with you, starting today!
“Wait a minute”, you might say. “If I bring that kind of passion to work with me every day… I might just change the world.”
Why yes… yes indeed. You just might. Proceed with reckless abandon!
