Small business has a huge opportunity to make a difference in the lives of those in their communities that are struggling just to survive. Today, many small businesses are choosing to align with non-profits to affect positive change in their local neighborhoods. One such business is DMX Direct.
Jim Kennel, president of DMX Direct has established the culture of community support at every level of his organization. “First, we had to build up our own people”, says Kennel. “Then we took our interest in charitable work beyond the walls of our company and connected with Inter-Faith Community Services (IFCS).”
IFC provides basic human services and enrichment services for low-income families using community resources. DMX Direct partners with IFCS by providing their database services (something they already provide for clients) as well as supporting their efforts with cash donations.
Supporting charitable organizations historically has been something that either wealthy individuals or large corporations have been involved with. There’s room at the table for small businesses, as well. One doesn’t have to necessarily give money in order to have a large impact. In-kind giving is just as important to organizations who, because of their non-profit structure and razor thin budgets may not be able to purchase the products or services. Do you have something to offer that might make the difference to someone in need? Would you consider aligning your business with a non-profit organization helping those in need in your community.
If you have the desire to help, but just don’t know where to start, we suggest that you just dial 211. That’s the national hotline for the United Way, and they can guide you to where your gifts and talents will be most helpful. Go ahead, pick up your phone right now, dial 211, and tell them you want to help! They’ll take it from there.
Eric Reamer and Angel Tuccy are the hosts of the nationally syndicated Experience Pros Radio Show. Jim Kennel (DMX Direct) and Maria Pearson (Inter-Faith Community Sercices) were guests of Jan Mazotti and Cristin Tarr during the “Connect + Collaborate with ICOSA” segment of the show. Below, we have supplied you with a series of links representing blogs and organizations that are experienced at working with businesses to make a difference in their communities.
